An EU-wide project with KU Leuven, Ghent University, Imec, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, and the Eindhoven University of Technology.
The EU-Interreg project Nano4Sports started in 2017 with a total budget of €4.6 million of which half was financed by the European Union.
One of the goals was to build cross-border bridges between Sports Tech Research institutes in Flanders (northern part of Belgium) and the south of The Netherlands. Partners involved in the project were KU Leuven, Ghent University, Imec Flanders and the Netherlands, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, and the Eindhoven University of Technology. In addition, the Dutch Sports & Technology cluster was closely involved.
Based on particular needs in the field, various researchers and entrepreneurs worked on a variety of cases in professional and recreational sports. Technological innovations were developed in various areas such as running, cycling, and 24h monitoring. The results of the project can be seen in this magazine which gives a very clear overview.
This project was very well coordinated by Tine Van Lommel of KU Leuven, and inspired us to create the Sports Tech Research Network. After all, innovation is all about connecting and collaborating, both locally as well as around the globe. To build further on this initiative and realize our ambitions, we’re looking for more people or initiatives who want to get involved and support us.
