Digitalization of medicine is ongoing, but which key application domains will be impacted in the future by digital technologies? How can adoption be improved?
In this post, the connection between sports tech and sports medicine is shown
What are the key applications of digital technologies in sports medicine? What is needed for health care providers to implement these technologies?
These insights are based on the research of the University of Potsdam, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Hannover Medical School, and a couple of other institutes. Researchers Lia Rigamonti et al. published the paper "Potentials of Digitalization in Sports Medicine: A Narrative Review" (Full Text). Here are their key insights. 👇
For those who like a short text version of the authors' findings, here it is:
Did you know digital innovations will probably significantly change several fields of sports medicine in the future?
This has been studied by researchers at The University of Potsdam, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Hannover Medical School, and a couple of other institutes. They conducted a review of the potential that digital technologies can have for health care providers and patients in sports medicine.
As a result, they found 12 key applications with a lot of potential: mobile applications, wearables, smart devices, intelligent machines, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, big data, system interoperability, virtual reality, augmented reality, exergaming, and social networks & social media.
They also found that a balance between innovation and establishing long-term evidence for digital features will have to be established and methodologies have to be set up for this. Furthermore, several applications are growing rapidly, so academic education about the right tools will be critical. Finally, the key challenge will be to integrate these tools intelligently into the daily work of physicians, physiotherapists, and their athletes and patients.
So...
Researchers, businesses, and sports organizations can collaborate to increase the ease of adoption by practitioners. This will result in a higher level of impact of the current and future technologies.
